THE AYMARA PAGE

The aymara is a Southamerican native language spoken by about two millions of people in the Titicaca lake neighbourhood. More precisely, 80% of aymara people live in Bolivia, 20% in Peru and 5% in Chile.

It is very likely the most ancient Aymara state was the Tiwanaku civilization (500AC). After that followed various Aymara states among them the Lupaqa and Qulla nations (1400AC) who were the last politically independent Aymara states.

The most important contribution to the mankind, from the ancient Aymara Culture, is the domestication of the potato from a wild variety. Still today it is possible to find this wild potato in many places of the Titicaca plateau where it is called qamaq ch'uqi (the fox's potato).
